Project Description

The heart of Two River Theatre is an intimate, flexible, 349-seat auditorium. Seating surrounds a modified thrust stage, focusing audience attention on the performers. A 2,500-square-foot rehearsal room doubles as a performance space, further accommodating classes and pre- and post-performance events. An upper mezzanine provides access to the auditorium balcony and a VIP room, while back-of-house elements include dressing rooms, a loading dock, and offices.

On the exterior, zig-zag wooden columns support a two-story glass lobby, which becomes a marquee when illuminated at night. An undulating zinc-panel roof wraps the building’s two primary facades. Curvilinear forms and rigid blocks of brick mingle a theatrical aesthetic with allusions to the town’s history.
